TRON: Legacy (3D) 2/5 (C)

Might have scored higher if it hadn't been in 3D and therefore bright enough to see what was happening.

Cars 3.5/5 (R)

Black Sheep 3.5/5 (R)

It's A Wonderful Life 5/5 (C)

The spontaneous round of applause says it all really.

Rare Exports 4/5 (C)

The New World 3/5 (R)

Magicians 3/5 (R)

It may not be that great but the familiar and likeable cast make it an enjoyable experience.

14 December 2010

Catfish 5/5 (C)

A serious contender for my film of the year.

05 December 2010

Monsters 3/5 (C)

An amazing achievement from an obviously talented director and so much better than most things coming out of Hollywood. A better script may have helped it from straying into clichés and allow a more believable relationship between the two leads to develop.

(And yes I know the two leads are a real couple and it was filmed as a series of improvised scenes.)

The First Movie 3.5/5 (C)

There are some really amazing scenes, the balloon sequence in particular, but the film as a whole didn't quite work for me.

19 October 2010

The Social Network 4/5 (C)

The first scene is amazing and made me want to finish my West Wing box set and then get and watch Studio 60. The rest of the film is a great entertaining experience but sadly largely forgettable.

Up In The Air 3.5/5 (D)

Really great start but overly sentimental and predictable towards the end.

New Moon 1.5/5 (D)

26 September 2010

The Experiment 4/5 (R)

Goes too far at the end but mostly good, don't know why it took me 16 months to get round to watching it.

Dogtooth 3.5/5 (C)

And I thought Cyrus was a weird kid.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to listen to Fly Me To The Moon in the same way ever again.

Exam 4/5 (D)

Another great film that I imagine hardly anyone has even heard of let alone seen.

Skeletons 3.5/5 (C)

For some unknown reason it didn't quite work as well as I thought it should. I'm fairly sure that Nick Whitfield is going to make a truly amazing film one day.

29 August 2010

Disturbia 2.5/5 (R)

Would be much better if it didn't turn into a horror film at the end. The great thing about Rear Window is even though I've seen it many times I still can't think if he did it or not.

Fame 3/5 (R)

The 1980 Alan Parker version

21 August 2010

19 August 2010

Inception 4/5 (C)

As expected, I liked this more the second time round. I still think the main reason it's getting such high praise is because the majority of films being released today are so mediocre.

I also think I've changed my mind about what may or may not be a dream.

13 August 2010

Departures 3.5/5 (D)

I think I must be the only person not to really like Departures but whilst it's all nicely presented it seemed far too predictable and not that interesting.

23 July 2010

Toy Story 3 5/5 (C)

I was a bit worried it was losing it's way in the middle but the ending is an amazing conclusion (I hope) to the trilogy.

Toy Story 2 5/5 (R)

I always used to disagree with the widely held opinion that this was a rare case of a sequel being better than the original - I was wrong.

Toy Story 5/5 (R)

22 July 2010

19 July 2010

Isolation 4/5 (C)

Screening at Hyde Park Picture House with a live soundtrack performed by director Luke Seomore with musicians Michael Garrad and David Stephens.

18 July 2010

Inception 4/5 (C)

It's a good film but I thought it was going to be an excellent film. I thought it would be smarter than the average film but I'm not sure if it was, but I probably was just expecting far too much.

29 June 2010

Where The Wild Things Are 4/5 (C)

Sin Nombre 2.5/5 (D)

Perhaps should try this again when I'm not so tired...

07 June 2010

06 June 2010

Tokyo Story 3/5 (C)

Perhaps I was just too tired but I failed to see how this is considered a masterpiece.

04 June 2010

In The Loop 3.5/5 (R)

Strange that I thought this was one of the best films of 2009 but on second viewing didn't think it was really anything special.

23 May 2010

Paranormal Activity 2.5/5 (D)

It just isn't scary (although I can't work out why) and that's a big problem for a scary film. All of the short films on the DVD as extras are great though.

The Cove 4.5/5 (D)

Amazing stuff. Now how do we get more people to see the film and do something about it.

20 May 2010

Oil City Confidential 3/5 (R)

Didn't make me want to go and listen to Dr Feelgood like The Filth And The Fury did with The Sex Pistols but Julien Temple really knows how to make a documentary.

02 May 2010

Das Boot 3/5 (R)

Jersey Girl 4/5 (R)

Such a sweet film, I really don't understand why more people don't like it.

21 April 2010

Pontypool 3.5/5 (D)

Great idea and fantastic set up but it all falls apart towards the end.

18 April 2010

Triangle 4/5 (D)

I'm not sure if the logic of the story completely worked but it was still interesting and enjoyable.

15 April 2010

The Headless Woman 2/5 (C)

Whilst watching I had no interest in the story or any of the characters and couldn't wait for it to be over. Afterwards the conversations I had with others and some reviews made it sound quite interesting so perhaps I should try to see it again.

11 April 2010

My Name Is Bruce 2/5 (D)

Occasionally gets the so-bad-its-good right, but mostly it's just bad. It does get better towards the end though.

The Flying Scotsman 3/5 (R)

01 April 2010

The Time Traveler's Wife 3/5 (D)

Fine, but lacks any of the depth of the novel and is more like somebody giving you a quick summary of the story.

31 March 2010

30 March 2010

Micmacs 3.5/5 (C)

Moments of brilliant but doesn't all quite hang together as a whole.

27 March 2010

Zombieland 3/5 (D)

Left me wanting more but not in a good way, perhaps it would've worked better as a TV series.

26 March 2010

Blur - No Distance Left To Run 4/5 (R)

Loved the slowed down live footage set to different music.

02 March 2010

The Boat That Rocked 2/5 (D)

A huge disappointment considering the talented people involved on both sides of the camera.

21 February 2010

Ashes Of Time Redux 3/5 (R)

Macbeth (Orson Welles) 2.5/5 (R)

I couldn't stay awake but I think that was a fault with me rather than the film

Gilda 3/5 (R)

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer 4/5 (R)

Disapponting start but there are some great moments in the latter half.
