BlacKkKlansman, 2018 - ★★★★

Undeniably a film for the moment, it may be too heavy handed in places but really this is no time for subtlety. I wish the story had a stronger ending before the film's powerful climax.

Le Bonheur, 1965 - ★★★

There were parts of this I completely adored but overall I'm not so sure.

Hearts Beat Loud, 2018 - ★★★★½

The trailer for this film left me with a feeling that it could be something I really loved. I knew nothing else about it before or since seeing that trailer but I was still a little apprehensive that it couldn’t live up to my own hype. I needn’t have worried because it’s a wonderful film that worked so well for me in so many different ways. It may just be a personal thing (but isn’t every opinion) because it’s hard to argue it’s a great film, or a particularly original one but it is a special film and that should mean so much more. It’s films like this that the Letterbox heart are made for.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, 2018 - ★★★★

It may not quite be up to the high standard of the early-Pixar-like-pantheon recent run of Marvel films (Spider-man - Infinity Wars) but it is a huge (and tiny) amount of fun. In many ways it's a shame that there isn't really much of a plot because all of the characters are so great.

Also has there never been a video game with the shrinking/growing mechanic, because there really should be.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout, 2018 - ★★★

Didn't enjoy this as much as Rogue Nation. Everything about it is just too long.

Helpmates, 1932 - ★★★

Before watching these Laurel & Hardy films on Talking Pictures TV I think I'd only ever seen them in the cinema and with live music. I'm beginning to wonder how much that adds to the overall experience because watching them at home I'm just not getting into them the same way and this is considered one of their best. It may also be something to do with them talking.
