Black Panther, 2018 - ★★★½

An ambitious but messy film that gets more right than wrong. Perhaps the biggest problem is the titular character isn't that interesting Fortunately just about every other character in the film is great with Letitia Wright and Andy Serkis really standing out for me.

The script and/or editing is where it gets messy, many points are made several times other and other things like the relationships between characters are barely mentioned. It might be that it has more depth than the usual MCU fare and require a bit more of your attention. I suspect it will work better on subsequent viewings.

The early action scenes felt like a great Bond film but the climatic battles were messy and uninteresting. It also suffers, like so many films recently, of having underpowered heroes defeating massively superior villains, although it does play with this idea a little. At least it's not something falling on a city.
