For the first hour it's easy to see why many claimed The Babadook was one of the best films of 2014. It's stylish and scary, psychological rather than horrific, taking so many genre tropes and presenting them perfectly. Then in the final 20 minutes it all gets a bit silly, showing things that were previously left to the imagination and undoing so much of the tension and possibilities that had been built up throughout the rest of the film.
